Our Approach

Dr. Pedreiro’s approach involves using an orthopedic exam and the use of specific chiropractic rehabilitation procedures through the use of corrective exercises. He is one of only 18 chiropractors in the state of CA who has fulfilled the requirements to obtain board-certified status as a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Rehabilitation Board  (DACRB). This requires hundreds of hours of additional training beyond standard chiropractic education. He is also very active in using the McKenzie Method (www.mckenzieinstituteusa.org) on most of his patients.

What is the McKenzie Method of MDT?

The McKenzie Method of MDT is a reliable assessment process intended for all musculoskeletal problems, including pain in the back, neck and extremities (i.e., shoulder, knee, ankle etc.), as well as issues associated with sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, muscle spasms and intermittent numbness in hands or feet. If you are suffering from any such issues, then a MDT assessment may be right for you!

Most of his patients are assessed with the McKenzie method on the first visit. MOST of his patients feel better after their first visit using the McKenzie exercises without even receiving any chiropractic adjustments.

Research is showing that if we don’t correct underlying movement issues then patients cannot expect to fully recover from their conditions. By incorporating these exercises patients are better able to take control of their health and prevent future episodes of pain.

Assessments are the first step:

Every individual is different. Different lifestyles and activities cause different compensations and imbalances to occur.  This is why it is crucial that everyone go through a thorough evaluation to determine what their specific problem areas may be. There are several assessments that are done by rehab specialists ( such as Dr. Pedreiro)  in order to determine the best treatment plan. Over the years Dr. Pedreiro has compiled specific methods to help figure out what the patient needs in order to reach their goals. It could be working on their posture, getting out of pain, showing appropriate lifting techniques, increasing their range of motion in order to increase their function or strengthen their core. By incorporating the McKenzie method and rehabilitation exercises his patients tend to reach their goals quickly.

Specific Exercises:

Once the patient undergoes an assessment Dr. Pedreiro can provide specific exercises to correct the areas that may be causing problems. Also, Dr. Pedreiro can determine which exercises/activities to avoid because they may be contributing to these problems.  The exercises are very simple and straightforward and the majority of times require no equipment at all. You will be given a very detailed and specific instruction on how to perform these exercises so they can also be performed at home. As a patient works on these exercises they are constantly reassessed to ensure progress is being made. By incorporating these exercises patients are better able to take control of their health and prevent future episodes of pain. This also makes patients less dependent on receiving in-office care – a -win win!
